My First Encounter with Drum & Bass
Sometimes, life is changed not by one dramatic moment or a single conversation. It happens gradually. Conversation after conversation, meeting after meeting, when someone is so deeply passionate about what they do that, without even realizing it, they begin opening an entirely new world to you.That is exactly what happened when I met Alexander Vyunitsky, best known as one half of the legendary drum & bass duo Agressor Bunx.I was first introduced to drum & bass in my teenage years, when the genre was only beginning to gain popularity in Ukraine. I was around sixteen or seventeen years old. I loved the energy of the music. It felt different, fast, emotional, and free. But as life moved on, other priorities appeared, other interests took over, and for many years drum & bass remained nothing more than a distant memory.Then, everything changed.
The Person Who Showed Me the Scene from the Inside
As I got to know Alexander from Agressor Bunx, he reintroduced me to this world, but this time from a completely different perspective. Not as a listener, but as someone who could truly understand what was happening behind the music. He explained how the industry worked, talked about labels, artists, the history of the genre, why some releases became timeless while others disappeared, how producers approached their sound, and what really mattered when building a career in drum & bass.Those conversations never felt like lessons. They were simply genuine discussions between people who loved music. Every time we spoke, I found myself searching for new releases, discovering artists I had never heard before, and diving deeper into the culture. Little by little, I realized just how vast the drum & bass scene really was and how many incredibly talented people dedicated their lives to it.
How the Idea of My Own Label Was Born
Perhaps Alexander saw that I wanted to create something of my own. Maybe he noticed my ambition, or maybe he simply realized that I was genuinely fascinated by everything we talked about. I honestly don't know. What I do know is this: without those conversations, my journey could have turned out very differently.That was the moment I stopped wanting to be just a listener. I wanted to become part of the culture itself. Not from the audience, but as someone capable of building projects, bringing artists together, releasing music, and creating opportunities for talented producers.With every conversation and every meeting, that idea became stronger. At the same time, I slowly began shaping the vision for my own record label. I thought about what it should represent, which artists it could support, and what kind of philosophy it should stand for. At that stage, they were only ideas and rough sketches, but those moments gradually became the foundation of a project that would later become one of the most important parts of my life.
Whenever I think about where everything truly began, my mind always returns to those conversations with Alexander.
